Women's Institute for Supply-Chain Excellence

"We must be the change we wish to see in the world" - Gandhi

Mission
WISE is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of those affected by war and natural disasters globally by broadening the scope of logistics and supply-chain expertise for women and thus a diverse perspective to work in the humanitarian field.

Relief Operation in Sri Lanka

Programme Goal
To address the gender imbalance in logistics and supply-chain through the formation of a professional cadre of female logisticians to meet the crucial, and at times unique, needs of the woman beneficiaries. By 2010, WISE will have made significant progress in two ways:
a) Increase by 80 % the number of female supply-chain professionals in the humanitairn sector
b) Transfer supply-chain skills to 30% of women beneficiaries that would enable them build their livelihoods

Objectives
a) Ensure humanitarian organizations adapt institutional policies inclusive of gender equity that are applied operationally
b) Ensure recruitment of more females into the humanitarian logistics and supply-chain functions
c) Ensure that females recruited are professionally trained and supported
d) Identify and recommend research projects that can allow women beneficiaries to benefit from supply-chain expertise

WISE adopts the following strategies to meet this mission:

Encouraging participation and equal opportunity for women
WISE will prioritise recruiting qualified female logisticians. We will lobby humanitarian organisations to be proactive in increasing the number of qualified female Logistics and Supply Chain professionals as part of their strategic hiring policy.

Education and Development
Pooled logisticians will be prepared and equipped with appropriate skills and knowledge to integrate gender concerns into their work. To support this growth WISE will strive to provide in-service professional training, training on essential skills and best practice for career progression and exposure through attending external workshops, conferences, seminars where they will meet inspirational speakers and network with other members, etc to help them hone their skills and recharge careers.

Mentoring Programme
This will offer members access to top-level professionals for one to one career advice to “give back” to a newer member to enhance the experience of women working in the field. The mentor programme will encourage individuals to develop their full potential using the network.

My dream is to see equal opportunities for women as leaders in supply & logistics, not only in the organizations that we work in, but also in the communities that we work with and endevour to empower.
